Last week I was invited to visit the Sherrin factory as part of the first chapter of an ongoing collaboration between the iconic Footy brand and GSJ. “Sherrin, the only ball AFL players fight for” reads a banner above their workspace. The men and women who work at Sherrin are incredibly proud of their art. They get to see the outcome of their work in real time during every footy match, knowing they’ve played a part in bringing the onscreen magic of our game to life. With this film, I aimed to display the craft with the same attention to detail that might be shown to the art of making a samurai sword or rolling sushi. The people who work at Sherrin are true craftsmen: proud of their work, caring of the fine details, and committed to creating a quality product - which is in many ways one of the most iconic Australian silhouettes of all time. Cheers to Andrew from Sherrin and the Sherrin team for taking me through their process.
